SHEEX Athlete Mirinda Carfrae Set To Compete in the Ironman 70.3 in Oceanside

carfrae1

She may look sweet (above) in her SHEEX, but when Mirinda “Rinny” Carfrae takes to the starting line of the Half Ironman (70.3) in Oceanside, Ca on Saturday she will become a fierce competitor. Rinny, who also celebrated her Birthday this week, will look to regain her title from the 2011 race as well as establish her early season form. The race will be the second of the 2013 season for the 2007 Ironman World Champion (she already has raced the 70.3 distance at Ironman San Juan).

We wish Rinny the best of luck this weekend (and a great night of sleep in her SHEEX pre-race)!

SHEEX Sleep Ambassador Mirinda Carfrae Earns Two Ironman Podium Finishes in One Month!

The Ironman Distance (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile run) is the ultimate test of multi-sport endurance. All finishers of the distance receive the title and prestige of becoming an Ironman, an exclusive club that takes countless hours of grueling training and mental toughness to be a part of.
SHEEX Sleep Ambassador Mirinda “Rinny” Carfrae stands amongst Ironman Royalty. The 2010 Ironman World Champion has finished the famous Kona race atop the podium every year since 2009, and this year continued the streak with a third place finish on October 13th. After a major championship most athletes take some time off to enjoy the off season and recover, yet Rinny did what some may call unthinkable. After re-couping from the Kona race she kept her training momentum going and toed the line at Ironman Florida on November 3rd.

According to Rinny, “The goal is to qualify/validate the Kona entry for next year early“, so that next season she does not have qualifying hanging over her shoulders.

Rinny’s second place finish secured her a spot at next year’s Ironman World Championships. With two successful races in such narrow time span, Rinny is now enjoying some well-deserved recovery and perhaps a bit more time to relax on her SHEEX performance sheets.

Rinny Takes Third Place in Kona!

Mirinda “Rinny” Carfrae found herself on the podium after Saturday’s Ironman World Championships in Kona. The 2010 Ironman World Champion finished the 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile run in 9:22:45, despite what she considered a sub-par swim followed by a bike leg where she lost much of her nutrition and experienced cramping. Rinny has proven to be one of the best female triathletes in the world with her podium finishes in Kona for three years in a row!

SHEEX Sleep Ambassador Mirinda Carfrae Seeks to Regain Ironman World Championship Title in Kona

On Saturday October 13th SHEEX Sleep Ambassador Mirinda Carfrae (“Rinny”) will compete in the Ironman World Championships in Kona where she won the overall women’s title in 2010. Rinny finished second overall last year (2011) and will compete this year to regain her “Kona Crown”.

The Ironman consists of a 2.4 mile ocean swim, a 122 mile bike ride through the notoriously hot and windy lava fields of Kona and finishes with a full-length marathon (26.2 miles). It is the ultimate test of endurance athletic ability and Mirinda stands amongst the best of all time. In 2011 Rinny posted the fastest women’s run split of the day, running a 2:52 marathon!

Here are the details to catch the action LIVE online this saturday and cheer Rinny on from the comfort of your SHEEX!

Guest Blog: SHEEX Sleep Ambassador Mirinda “Rinny” Carfrae

SHEEX Sleep Ambassador Mirinda “Rinny” Carfrae is the 2010 Ironman World Champion and is currently training and racing in preparation to regain her crown in Kona this fall.

The last few weeks have been pretty significant! For one, I got a nice win under my belt with a victory at Ironman 70.3 Lake Stevens–just the kind of result I like to see prior to starting a solid Kona (Ironman World Championships) build up, but an even better treat awaited me on my mid-season break. TO (Tim O’Donnell) and I stayed in Big Sur for a holiday week following the race, where he proposed! Needless to say, we’re both super excited! Of course, beyond soaking in the celebrations during our week off, we haven’t had much time for wedding planning, as we’re now back to work and fully immersed in Ironman prep. With nine weeks to go, training definitely takes the top spot on my priority list for now! But it is pretty cool looking down at my hands on the bike and seeing a shiny ring. Kona Ironman Championships are October 13.

Guest Post: Triathlete Mirinda Carfrae Returns from Kona

We are proud to be associated with some fantastic athletes, and Mirinda Carfrae is truly an amazing one. The 2010 Ironman World Champion, Mirinda recently returned from this year’s competition in Kona, Hawaii, and was generous enough to file this report.

Learn more about Mirinda at SHEEX.com.

I’m excited to be writing my first guest blog post for SHEEX, as it certainly won’t be my last. Just home from the Ironman World Championships in Kona, I’ve wrapped up my season and am home nestled in Boulder. It’s always a bit of a shock coming home after a few weeks in hot and humid Kona to a cold and sometimes snowy Colorado, but it’s the perfect start to an off-season.

It usually takes me about a week to unpack the bike but I do unpack my SHEEX right away – and get them on the bed! If I can travel with my bike, race wheels and what feels like a million other things that I need for a triathlon, then the SHEEX better be traveling too! I love having a little bit of home with me in Kona and my SHEEX help keep me cool with the hot and humid weather.

Mirinda Carfrae & her SHEEX

Ironman Kona was a success and a great end to the season. I finished 2nd female overall and clocked my best time ever while setting a new course record for the run. For those of you who have never seen an Ironman race before on TV or live – it’s really an amazing test of will. Although I finish early in the day, my most memorable moments of the event are going back to the finish line late at night when the course is about to close at midnight (competitors are allotted 17 hours to complete an Ironman) and the last finishers are coming in. The crowds at the finish line come to life as they cheer, dance and cry for the last competitors to be able to label themselves as Ironman finishers. It’s incredible to be involved in an event that is just as special for the top pro athletes as it is for the last finisher who has been on the course all day, and all night. (Meanwhile, I’ve raced, recovered, showered, eaten, rested, eaten again, etc.)

I’m still convinced that the some of the last competitors to cross the line hold out to be the very last to cross that finish line for their 15 minutes of fame, and I don’t blame them! That last finisher is greeted with what feels like more energy and excitement than the first finisher! If you have a chance, tune in to the NBC broadcast of this year’s Ironman Kona, scheduled for early December.

As for my relationship with SHEEX, I love keeping tabs on Susan and Michelle and look forward to seeing the crew very soon. I’ll be hosting a SHEEX Twitter party NEXT WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 9TH AT 4PM Pacific/7PM Eastern. I’ll be online for an hour talking training, racing, fun stuff and answering questions that you guys might want to ask. I’ll also host a couple SHEEX giveaways so be sure to join in. We’ll use the hashtag #rinnychat.

Until then I will practice my game of H-O-R-S-E. I might only be 5’3” but I look forward to getting back to my basketball moves and talking ‘training’ with the girls.

Thank you SHEEX for supporting my racing and enhancing my sleep. It’s all about recovery now.
