Monthly Archives: August 2012
Earlier this month a few members of the SHEEX team had the opportunity to attend the Gift+Home Show at the World Market Center in Las Vegas. The World Market Center is an integrated home and hospitality contract furnishings showroom and trade company.
The Gift+Home show presented over 90 brand new lines, 282 Gift+Home Temporaries and the debut of a high-end home decor showcase. It was great to see new bedding technologies on display as well as products focused on “air flow” and “cool gel” capabilities.
Stay tuned to see how SHEEX will take this new insight to the next level!
SHEEX Sleep Ambassador Mirinda “Rinny” Carfrae is the 2010 Ironman World Champion and is currently training and racing in preparation to regain her crown in Kona this fall.
The last few weeks have been pretty significant! For one, I got a nice win under my belt with a victory at Ironman 70.3 Lake Stevens–just the kind of result I like to see prior to starting a solid Kona (Ironman World Championships) build up, but an even better treat awaited me on my mid-season break. TO (Tim O’Donnell) and I stayed in Big Sur for a holiday week following the race, where he proposed! Needless to say, we’re both super excited! Of course, beyond soaking in the celebrations during our week off, we haven’t had much time for wedding planning, as we’re now back to work and fully immersed in Ironman prep. With nine weeks to go, training definitely takes the top spot on my priority list for now! But it is pretty cool looking down at my hands on the bike and seeing a shiny ring. Kona Ironman Championships are October 13.
As the fall season approaches we are excited to announce some brand new products that are sophisticated and luxurious enough to walk the runway! Whether you are preparing to send your student off to college, want to ensure a better night’s sleep for your little ones or want to pamper the whole family these innovative products from SHEEX will ensure that you sleep and rest better so that you are ready to succeed everyday!

My Intern Story: Anthony Goodin, Manager of Operations and International Business, former Operations Intern
Q: What brought you to SHEEX?
A: I casually told a former classmate that I was looking for an operations/supply chain internship. He told me about this startup company where he was currently an intern, SHEEX, and it sounded fascinating. Lucky for me, he contacted me three days later asking me to come in for an interview–I was thrilled. After the interview, I was sold on the company. Since then, SHEEX has hired me full time.
Q: What is the day in the life of you?
A: Every day I check on the operations and processes of the company, ensuring that all our orders are processing properly. The rest of my day consists of building our new International strategy, tracking and forecasting sales and researching new technology that will allow our company to operate more efficiently.
Q: What do you like best about working at SHEEX?
A: The amount of responsibility I have and how much the Executive team trusts my judgment. I wouldn’t find this type of operational freedom and responsibility at any large company; I’m learning and gaining experience at such an exciting rate.
Q: What is the most unique aspect of your job?
A: Being in charge of international strategy is the most unique aspect about my job. There’s so much research involved and contacts to make that I’m constantly learning more about how to grow a business. It’s almost if I’m trying to open my own business…
Q: What is your goal at SHEEX? What do you hope to learn?
A: My goal at SHEEX is to gain the experience necessary to one day start my own business. I’m learning both the soft skills of sales and office culture to the hard skills of financial model building and marketing calendars.
Q: If SHEEX were an animal what would it be?
A: Leopard. It’s not the king of the jungle like a lion, but it is the most versatile!
Q: Who would be your dream celebrity endorser of SHEEX… silly or serious?
A: Candace Parker. I want to meet her…
SHEEX has been proud to support several Olympic hopefuls and athletes this year; two of whom qualified to compete on the world’s biggest sport’s stage, the 2012 London Olympics.
Leading up to London, SHEEX Sleep Ambassadors Hyleas Fountain and Brad Walker had more than just Olympics dreams while resting and recovering in their SHEEX – - they also dreamed of the podium and ultimately winning the Gold! Both athletes traveled to London with a set of SHEEX, and Brad even shared several SHEEX SLEEP•SAX with his U.S. Olympic teammates!
Hyleas Fountain is the 2008 Olympic Silver Medalist and was a favorite to compete for the win in London. She masterfully won the U.S. Olympic Trials in June and looked like a strong contender against the UK’s fan favorite Jessica Ennis during the first day of the Olympic Heptathlon competition. The heptathlon is an extremely physically demanding event consisting of 7 track and field events (high jump, javelin, long jump, 100 hurdles, 200 meters, shot put and 800 meters) and contested over two days, and despite Hyleas’ strong early season form, extreme back pain would overtake her chance to earn another podium finish as she was forced to withdraw on the second day of competition.
Brad Walker is the American Record Holder in the Pole Vault and is the 2007 Pole Vault World Champion. After preliminary rounds Brad was ranked 4th, a comfortable position to reach his goals as he headed into the final. Unfortunately, he missed on three jump attempts during the final (as did many athletes due to swirling winds, including the defending Olympic Champion) and was eliminated from the finishing standings of the competition.
Brad’s outlook after “failing” on the biggest stage in sports sums up what separates Olympians from mere mortals, but also what can inspire us to achieve our goals even if they do not include an Olympic medal:
Failure. I’ve said this about my Olympic performance and everybody keeps saying that I didn’t fail. Why has the word failure become such a no no. If I had a silver medal around my neck, I would have failed to reach gold. Failure to me is an acceptable outcome. I have prepared for this meet to the absolute best of my ability. Sacrificed more then most people know or realize. But for those very same reasons, this failure is perfectly okay. I didn’t give up. I didn’t cut corners, or stop working my ass off when no one was around. I would gladly FAIL pushing the limits of my training then continuing to use the SAFE workouts. I will gladly fail fighting for the gold, then safely receiving silver. In the pole vault we almost always leave the track failing the last three attempts at every meet. Failing is not the enemy, not giving your all is. I will continue to fail at things the rest of my life, but by no means will I ever say that I am a failure.
Picture this: Mack Sennett Stage, Hollywood’s oldest continuing studio with photos and memorabilia dating as far back as 1912, hardwood floors, creaky doors and maybe even a few ghosts of legendary stars like Buster Keaton, Carole Lombard and Greta Garbo…
Then in comes Janice, like a whirlwind, with a team of high-tech cameramen and cases of SHEEX bedding made from the very latest in performance technology. It looks like outdated cotton is not the only thing being whisked into the 21st century thanks to SHEEX!
5000 women bloggers + a handful of top notch celebrity appearances + over 20 sessions on every type of blogging possible
= 3 days and nights of non-stop fun!
Fortunately, SHEEX was there to provide a little rest, relaxation and escape from the madness. Through our partnership with Zeo, we invited bloggers to “Take control of your sleep” by slipping into our bed and trying out some sleep solutions. All sorts of bloggers got snuggled up in SHEEX, from Shannon who blogs about deals and discounts, to Courtney who blogs about raising a family in NY.
On the last day we even convinced our first and only man we saw (a rare breed at BlogHer) to jump into the SHEEX. And I mean Chris literally jumped in and knocked-over the delicately stylzed curtains, but it was so worth it to get this photo.
There were also some unforgettable celebrity appearances… We started off the conference with a big bang as President Obama addressed the entire banquet hall via live video feed.
The next two days were highlighted by keynote speakers Martha Stewart and Katie Couric.
Even the Expo halls were crawling with familiar faces.
The Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond, famous Food Network chef and avid blogger, gushed, giggled (and even sang a little) over her profound love of Land o Lakes’ new butter innovation: butter with olive oil and sea salt. I am not ashamed to say that I tried multiple samples of it on pasta and it is undeniably delicious!
BlogHer2012 was a huge success and wonderful opportunity to raise awareness among thousands of women (and a few men) that great sleep is achievable if you only know where to look.
The digital version of the conference can be found at
We created the SHEEX Nation Hall of Fame to highlight our newest inductees, our best sleepers, our feedback providers and our most vocal fans. As we scoured our Facebook and Twitter accounts for our newest inductee, the answer was simple: William Cuebas.
William first came to our attention during a SHEEX Twitter Party with our sleep ambassador and Pro Golfer Nicole Smith. He was an incredibly active part of our chat and curious about SHEEX, a product Nicole is an official Sleep Ambassador for and a huge a fan of. After winning a SHEEX travel pillow he was hooked.
“I use the [SHEEX Travel Pillow] as my main pillow to sleep,” said William. “My wife thought I was crazy until she tried it. Now she tries to steal it!”
Since the Twitter Party, William has been a vocal part of the SHEEX community. We always look forward to seeing his responses and feedback on Twitter!
William is originally from New York, where he is retired from Law Enforcement. He currently resides in Florida and loves spending time with his wife, 9-year-old twins and playing golf. He is a proud supporter of Folds of Honor and Warriors for Freedom.
In addition to his travel pillow, William owns SHEEX performance sheets in king size and is looking forward to his next set in Pewter.
“I love a lot of things about SHEEX, but if I had to narrow it down, I would have to say moisture transport,” said William. “Living in Florida, it’s important to stay dry and comfy.”
Please join us in welcoming William to the SHEEX Nation Hall of Fame!
